About FLL

FIRST is an organization working to let kids understand and learn about robotics. FIRST stands for,
Inspiration and Recognition for Science and Technology FIRST has created many different programs.

Who is FLL directed to?

FLL mainly focuses on creating young engineers who have a passion for robotics. These are about kids who are interested
in coding and building. It is easy to build and code based off of the programming language that you use,
and is also easy to build as the building parts are mechanical legos, which are easy to put together.

What happens in FLL?

Every year there's a different theme introduced for a project and the missions on the playing field.
Each team gets at least 5 months to prepare their robot and project to showcase on the field and to the judges.

Well, how does the robot game work?

You get 2 and a half minutes to complete the most missions possible on the playing field and each completed mission comes with a certain number of points,
ranging from 10 to 30. There's also precision tokens that can add onto the end score; the less you touch the robot on the playing field,
away from the designated home area, the more precision tokens you get added to your score.

Ugh, there's presentations?

Yes, to build presentation skills; there's two presentations you present to the judges: Robot Design and Project. You get 5 minutes to present each,
and after each, there's a Q&A session. At the end, the judges give you feedback on your presentations. All in all, you have thirty minutes of time in the judging room.
Even though the presentations don't sound fun, it is exciting when you present, and it is a great learning experience.

Hmm, this is interesting… what are the requirements to join?

This is for FLL Challenge, where there are presentations and robot:
  • The team must be made of 2-10 people
  • There must be at least 2 adult coaches
  • The kids need to be from ages 9 to 14 for the US and 9 to 16 for other countries
  • Lastly, if you have met these requirements and you are interested in robotics, sign up here!
